Preparing to Serve Luther Prep works to prepare young people for future service in the church, but we believe students should start that service already in high school. Students at LPS have numerous opportunities to get involved and serve others. These opportunities also help students decide if public ministry is for them.
Taste of Ministry: Seniors spend two days “on the job” with a parish pastor or classroom teacher. Ministry Day: Over thirty presenters from all over the country come to Luther Prep to share their various forms of ministry and encourage our students to find their avenue of service.
Project Timothy: Perhaps the most influential ministry experience LPS offers, Project Timothy allows juniors and seniors the chance to travel to a national or foreign mission field to help churches run soccer camps, vacation Bible schools, and other outreach events. Most Project Timothy trips take place during the summer and last about ten days. Recent destinations include the states of Texas, California, Virginia, Georgia, Florida, Alaska, and the countries of Antigua, St. Lucia, Germany, Mexico, and Canada.
Jesus Cares: The local chapter of Jesus Cares Ministries, which serves the developmentally disabled with the gospel, meets on campus each Tuesday evening. LPS students serve as volunteer teachers, helpers, and musicians.
Leading Worship: Students help lead our campus worship in various ways. Choirs, music groups, and individual musicians beautify our services. Students accompany hymns during evening chapel. Senior boys have the opportunity to write and deliver a devotion for evening worship.
Local Congregations: As opportunities arise, LPS students enjoy helping local congregations with outreach events, canvassing efforts, and church music.
Student Council: The LPS student government helps students discover and develop their leadership and organizational skills.
